Air China has received a new Boeing 777-300ER with a special livery featuring the words ‘Smiling China’.

The livery was a joint creation by Air China and Boeing to mark the 40th anniversary of Boeing’s entry into China. Featuring the slogan along with 40 smiling Chinese faces, the livery is intended to portray China as a “friendly and optimistic country”, according to the airline. The 40 faces are those of 20 Air China staff members and 20 netizens, chosen for their stories about China’s aviation industry.

“Over the years, the rapid development of China’s airline industry has been playing an important role in promoting the cooperation and exchanges between China and other countries. We hope that Air China’s ‘Smiling China’ aircraft can be a bridge and a tie, bringing a smiling China to the world,” said Zhang Yang, Assistant President of Air China.

The new aircraft is the 10th out of an order for 19 B777-300ERs. Currently Beijing-based Air China operates the twin-aisle aircraft on international routes to Frankfurt, Los Angeles and Paris as well as key domestic routes to Shanghai, Guangzhou, Shenzhen and Chengdu.
