British Airways has extended the availability of its hand baggage fares to other airports and announced a new ‘semi-flexi’ rate.
The airline will now offer the hand luggage-only option on short-haul flights from Heathrow and London City after a successful introduction to Gatwick earlier this year.
The fare is available on flights to destinations such as Amsterdam, Rome, Paris and Stockholm.
“The hand baggage-only fare at Gatwick has proved very popular with our customers so we’re now introducing it on a selected number of short-haul routes from Heathrow and London City. If it proves as successful, we plan to roll it out across the whole short-haul network in the coming months,” said Robin Glover-Faure, BA’s head of short-haul.
In addition, the airline has launched a new semi-flex fare on routes from London to Amsterdam, Stockholm, Barcelona, Paris, Rome, Rotterdam, Glasgow and Edinburgh.
This is the same as a standard fare with added benefits such as free booking changes on the day of departure; the ability to select a seat for free two days before departure and a no change fee prior to the day of travel. Customers are able to book an itinerary mixing between the standard, semi-flex and fully-flex options.
“We have also listened to our customers and we’re introducing a new fare type, the semi-flex ticket, which gives travellers a range of new options, including the opportunity to change their ticket on the day of departure for no extra fee,” said Glover-Faure.
