British Airways has signed a ‘ground-breaking’ recognition deal with Unite on behalf of cabin crew members.
The airline, which was previously plagued by strikes from the union in 2011, has agreed to terms and conditions regarding pay, holidays and hours of work for both new and future crew.
The conditions were set by Unite’s general secretary Len McCluskey and BA’s chief executive Keith Williams.
As well as new crew, the terms also covers the 2,000 mixed fleet cabin crew that operate out of Heathrow to destinations in the UK and internationally.
“I’m delighted that Unite and British Airways have agreed this groundbreaking recognition deal for BA’s mixed fleet. The union and the company worked positively together to put the finishing touches to the agreement,” said McCluskey.
“Cabin crew have already seen the benefits of the recognition deal including a substantial increase in holiday pay entitlement. It’s no surprise that the union has already recruited over half of the mixed fleet cabin crew and Unite will continue to encourage crew to join to ensure workers have a voice within the mixed fleet.”
