BA to allow mobile use after landing

British Airways will become the first airline in Europe to allow passengers to switch on their mobile devices immediately after landing.
Previously, passengers were asked to wait until the aircraft had come to a complete stop before they could switch on their mobiles. But under new rules, the UK’s national carrier will allow mobile use as soon as the aircraft has vacated the runway.
BA said the move was in response to customer demand, and that it has already demonstrated that it is safe to use mobiles while the aircraft is taxiing.
“Customers will no longer have the frustration of having to wait until their plane has arrived at the terminal building before being able to use their mobile phones and other handheld electronic devices. Now they’ll have that extra time to phone ahead for that important business meeting, check their emails, or make sure someone is there to meet them at the airport,” said Ian Pringle, BA’s flight training manager.
Earlier this year, BA started allowing passengers on long-haul flights to continue to watch in-flight entertainment during the take-off and landing phases.
