British Airways plans to further increase its flight frequency in Saudi Arabia, the key market for the company, as reported in Saudi Gazette.
Paolo De Renzis, BA’s regional commercial manager, Middle East & Central Asia, said that both the Jeddah and Riyadh routes “are performing very well for us and we are seeing an increase in demand to the UK and North America, from both Saudi nationals and expats.”
At present, BA operates 69 weekly flights between the GCC and London from eight cities in six different countries, which includes two daily flights from KSA. “Our daily flight to Riyadh is operated using a Boeing 747 aircraft, which is an increase in 1000 weekly seats from previous Boeing 777 service. Jeddah is operated with a three-cabin Boeing 767. From March 2014, Jeddah will be moving to a four-cabin Boeing 777, giving an increase of over 500 seats per week from Jeddah to London in both directions,” he said.
Moreover, De Renzis said in the absence of code sharing arrangements with Saudi Airlines, BA, has “interline agreements with many carriers including Saudi Arabian Airlines. This cooperation is enabled by organizations such as IATA, which play an invaluable role in allowing airlines to work together in different ways, promoting increased travel and trade, and enhancing productivity.”
British Airways has been investing heavily in customer experience, and as part of this investment, “we have completed a GBP300 million (about SAR1.8 billion) embodiment program of Club World (business), while we have also invested GBP 100 m (about SAR600 m ) in our new first class cabins alone,” added De Renzis.
