British Airways has announced it will launch flights from Heathrow to Alicante and Rotterdam as part of its winter schedule changes.

Services to Alicante will begin three times a week on 28 October, while the Rotterdam flights will commence thrice weekly on 9 December.

The carrier will also increase services to Gibraltar (nine times a week from October) and Tel Aviv (20 a week from 28 October) in the changes, which have come into effect following its merger with bmi. Its Cape Town and Riyadh flights have been retimed with early morning arrivals into London, with the latter to be served by a bigger aircraft.

In addition, bmi’s previous routes to Almaty, Amman, Baku, Beirut, Dublin, Freetown and Tbilisi (the latter to become a direct service) will become British Airways destinations while its overlaps with Cairo, Moscow, Riyadh and Jeddah will see some bmi flights dropped. Underperforming routes to Amritsar, Bishkek, Casablanca, Dammam, Khartoum and Yerevan will be suspended throughout September and October in the changes.

The carrier also announced its newly-embodied A321s will put its Club World offering with flat beds on mid-haul destinations including Tel Aviv. Exterior and interior of bmi’s aircraft are currently being changed to BA’s style, which is expected to finish in early 2013. The Airbus A319s and A320s will include Club Europe and Euro Traveller cabins.
